“Skilled staff make thoughtful adaptations where necessary, to ensure that pupils with SEND access the curriculum successfully.”
Ofsted, 2024
At Teenage Kicks, we pride ourselves on offering a high-quality provision that can support young people with a broad range of special educational needs and disabilities.
Once a pupil has been offered a place at our school, our SEND team will carry out baseline assessments to build an up-to-date picture of the young person’s strengths and weaknesses in key areas such as literacy, numeracy, and cognitive ability. This ensures we can identify any required interventions and plan effectively. Professional reports, recommended strategies, classroom adjustments and further advice will also be shared with staff to ensure the appropriate support is in place as early as possible.
On arrival, pupils will complete a range of GL Assessments, which will highlight any potential concerns in reading, spelling, comprehension and maths. Discussions that take place during this time will also allow our SEND team to gain an understanding of the young person and their own views regarding education, ensuring any barriers to learning can be addressed at the earliest opportunity.
A pupil profile and a provision outline will be produced by the SEND team. A one-page summary will be shared to all staff, outlining primary needs, interventions, and other key information, including EHCP outcomes. Staff will provide ongoing feedback on pupil progress, keeping parents/carers informed through regular contact and a mid-year review. Pupils will be added to the SEND register, which all staff can access for further information.
Annual review meetings are held with each young person, their families, and professionals involved in their care and education to discuss the young person’s progress against their EHCP outcomes.
At Teenage Kicks, we have a school counsellor offering support to both pupils and their families if needed. We also work closely with a range of professional agencies to provide further support for young people with SEND, ensuring their needs are met across all areas of learning and wellbeing.
